Start - node 60: Tourist Information, Leeraner Straße 1, 26835 Hesel. This route is named because in the month of May decorated maypoles stand along this route; this tradition is still lovingly maintained by young and old. With a length of 45.5 kilometers, you have many opportunities to discover the culture of East Frisia, and there is also plenty for children to experience. A visit to the "Archaeological Exhibition" in Villa Poken and an exploration of the largest contiguous forest area in East Frisia with the deserted village "Kloster Barthe" and the adventure playground "Sieben Bergen". Along the entire route, you will discover some decorated maypoles in May. You will ride through a diverse landscape (nodes 51, 52, 53, 38, 44) with lush meadows, hedgerows, and typical East Frisian canals. In Hollen, towards node 45, you can visit the Christ Church. As a detour, you can stop by the mill in Südgeorgsfehn. Towards nodes 43, 83, 77, 79, 84, 82 to Detern, you should visit the recreational facility at Jümmesee. In Detern itself, you will find Castle Stickhausen on the bank of the Jümme river. Continuing with nodes 87, 81, 76, 75, you should visit St. Paulus Church in Filsum. Node 59 is considered another highlight and features a crossing with the crank ferry (do it yourself ferry) over the river "die Holtlander Ehe". Let your gaze wander far over the countryside, and surely the local wildlife and birdlife will not remain hidden. On the way to Holtland at node 58, you can make a detour to the water park (many old and new things on the subject of water) towards node 56 in Hasselt. Returning towards nodes 58, 88 to Holtland, another detour to the Holländermühle Gallery (mill café open Sundays in summer 2-5 pm) is possible. The impressive landmark is hard to miss. Otherwise, continue towards nodes 89, 61, and back to node 60.
