You wouldn't think it, but even so far inland, so far from the North Sea, a pronounced maritime history is still omnipresent in Barßel. Canoe tours can start from Barßel harbor over the Nordloher-Barßeler-Tief and the Jümme to Stickhausen.
After the start, the route leads out of Barßel harbor to the left over the Nordloher-Barßeler-Tief. After about 1 hour, the rest stop "Scharrel" is reached. At the junction there, follow the sign to the right and paddle downstream on the Jümme. After another 1 1/4 hours the confluence of Aper Tief is reached. For a break here there is a rest stop behind the first bend of Aper Tief just out of sight. From here the route leads in a wide arc around the town of Detern until after 45 minutes you reach the dock of the Paddel-und-Pedal station Stickhausen on the right riverbank.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
- If the tide does not fit your daily schedule, the canoe route can often be reversed and paddled upstream from Stickhausen to Barßel.
Safety guidelines
All participants should be able to swim confidently.
Alcohol consumption is not allowed on the water either.
Keep distance from other watercraft. Canoes must always give way and are sometimes poorly regarded by the drivers of motorboats.
Starting time must be coordinated with the tide times to avoid a route against the current of up to 8 km/h.
