Freshwater mudflats
The only freshwater mudflats in the northwest is at Aper Tief. For flood protection reasons, a retention area for possible floods was created in 2005 by relocating the southern dike. The same thing happened not far away in Apen / Holtgast. Flora and fauna thank you very much!

- Abfahrt A28 Apen/Remels Richtung Apen fahren und der Straße ca. 5 km folgen. In Apen rechts auf die "Hauptstraße" abbiegen und bis zur Kreuzung fahren. Dort rechts abbiegen und nach ca. 500 m befindet sich der Landgasthof Hengstforder Mühle. Hier ist ein großer Parkplatz. Ein schmaler Durchgang neben der Mühle führt sie zum Aper Tief bis hin zum "Süsswasserwatt".
