Attention: Due to construction work, there is a long-term partial closure of the railway bike trail in Kayhauserfeld. A detour via the Wold line is signposted. The detour is only slight! The GPX track contains the current routing.

This route is less suitable for friends of paved farm roads. However, for forest lovers who also like cycling on unpaved paths with a water-bound surface, it is the ideal route. With the Mansholter Holz and the Wold, bordering the Woldsee, you cross two larger forest areas by Ammerland standards. The Woldsee, created by sand extraction for the A 28 motorway in the early 1970s, is a good spot for a break.

Highlights ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT OF THE ROUTE

  • Mansholter Holz (Mansholt): The 175-hectare nature reserve consists of a well-developed, species-rich alder, ash, and moist to wet oak-hornbeam forest interspersed with swamps, various large sedge meadows, and small-scale meadowsweet tall herbaceous vegetation in the Bäke valleys of the Nutteler and Bokeler Bäke streams.
  • The Woldsee originated in the 1970s when sand was needed for the construction of the A28 motorway. The approximately 14-hectare lake reaches a depth of 13 meters at its deepest points.
  • Rhododendron Park Bruns (Gristede): Under the protection of tall pines, more than 1000 rhododendrons and outdoor azaleas of many species and varieties are presented in the Rhododendron Park in Gristede. Garden lovers experience splendid blossoms, lush growth, and wonderful fragrances in some varieties. The park was open to the public from day one and quickly became a pilgrimage site for rhododendron fans worldwide.
  • The evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church in Wiefelstede in the Ammerland district dates back to the oldest church building in Ammerland. The church construction began around 1200 and was continuously modified until the 15th century. The church contains remarkable furnishings from medieval and baroque times.
