In Varel, the largest town in Friesland district, the second stage starts. On the route, you see the Varel Mill, cycle through the town past Neumarktplatz, spot the water tower at Varel Forest, and cycle along forests towards Altjührden. Through Grünenkamp, the Tour de Fries leads to Linswege, known especially for its Rhododendron Park. Through wooded areas and the village Hüllstederfeld, the route continues to Westerstede. A short stop at the city's oldest building is worthwhile. The St. Petri Church is the largest in the Ammerland district, with its 48-meter-high tower. Through a green area, the “Tour de Fries” leads out of Westerstede past Westerstede-Feld airfield to Jührdenerfeld. To the right, the Bockhorn Moor is passed (guided tours available on request), and then the route leads into the town center of the municipality Bockhorn. It passes the typical Frisian St. Cosmas and Damian Church, built around 1200 from erratic boulders. The church's organ was built by the renowned organ builder Christian Vater in 1720 and restored in the late 1970s.
