The 3rd stage begins in Apen. Apen is located in the Ammerland park landscape and borders the East Frisian fen area. Its historical significance comes from the many waterways connecting it via Jümme, Leda, and Ems to the North Sea. Due to their tidal dependency, there is a wonderful floodplain landscape here and the only freshwater mudflat in the north, "the Aper Tief." You leave Apen behind and hike through the beautiful green inland surrounded by fields and meadows. On the hike, you can enjoy the green sections in peace. You pass the cultural monument Mansinger Burgplatz. In 1226, the Burgplatz with the outer bailey and the surrounding castle moats was first mentioned. Locals know the castle grounds as Hammjeborg. Today, a larger and several smaller hills can be seen in a charming moorland landscape. Then you reach Westerstede. You hike on to the marketplace and end the 3rd stage at "Am Markt." The quiet town center with pedestrian zone invites you to stroll and many hospitable cafés and restaurants are available for refreshments.

- Mansinger Burgplatz: The Mansingen Burgplatz is a cultural monument. In 1226, the Burgplatz with the outer bailey and the surrounding castle moats was first mentioned. Locals know the castle grounds as Hammjeborg. Today, a larger and several smaller hills can be seen in a charming moorland landscape. The main castle complex likely stood on the larger hill, the outer bailey and economic buildings on the smaller elevations. The castle complex probably arose in the extensive marshy flatland by embankment and originally served as a refuge castle. The ring wall complex is referred to in archaeology as a motte (mound castle). Presumably, in the 13th century, this motte became a moated castle or tower mound castle through the construction of earthen walls and water ditches, the approximate course of which is again clearly visible today.
