The Loher Forest near Godensholt is ideal for walks, bike rides and hikes. A visit to the Drahkampsee is particularly worthwhile. It is believed that there was a pagan cult site for the god Wotan in the forest. In any case, the landscape there has a mystical charm and is well worth a visit.
Rye bog was settled late. Today the remains of the bog culture are preserved and cared for there. This includes both the remains of the raised bog and our idyllic lake "Die Kieskuhle". Stroll through an enchanted landscape with bog birch forests and keep an eye out for species typical of bog, such as bell heather, cotton grass or sundew.
In 2005 the dike on the southern bank was removed and relocated to the "Unterster Weg" road. The Aper Tief is a tidal body in the Ammerland district. An area of around 75 hectares, which lies between the villages of Augustfehn and Apen, was dammed. The area was a nature reserve even before the start of the project. This project is a further measure for large-scale dikes in the Weser-Ems. A hiking trail has been laid out around the Aper Tief.
The large Süderbäke flows from Aperbergerstraße (Möbel Eilers) to the bridge to Sonnenhof in Hüllstede (Westerstede). Here you can hike as you please and enjoy nature.
