The Gallerieholländer-type windmill was rebuilt at the old location according to the original plans. It is looked after by the Mill Association and can be viewed from May to October on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Today it is used as a registry office and for events. In addition, from April to October there is a baking day in the adjoining bakery every second Wednesday of the month.

AB 28 Abfahrt Apen/Remels in Richtung Apen fahren. im Ort Apen rechts auf die "Hauptstraße" einbiegen und dieser bis zur Ampelkreuzung folgen. An der Ampelkreuzung rechts Richtung Augustfehn abbiegen und nach ca. 1 km befindet sich die Hengstforder Mühle auf der linken Straßenseite.
