Customs post Holtgast
The two replica border huts are in front of the hotel "Zur Schanze" in Holtgast. They point to the fact that there was a customs post in Holtgast, which secured the Oldenburg counts income. Since the early 18th century, the Frisian Heerweg was the only road that could be used all year round and therefore the official movement of goods could only take place here.

Autobahn Abfahrt A28 Apen/Remels Richtung Apen auf K114 "Uplengener Strasse", dann rechts in die "Stahlwerkstrasse" abbiegen, in Augustfehn an der Ampelkreuzung rechts in die "Hauptstrasse" einbiegen. Nach ca. 3 km in Richtung Holtgast befinden sich die Grenzhäuschen an der rechten und linken Straßenseite.
