On this tour we will take you through an interesting and remarkable period of Augustfehn's history, which is the youngest part of the Apen municipality, but has a lot to offer in terms of history. The construction of a canal and the construction of an ironworks began in the mid-19th century. The rise of the place named after the Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August von Oldenburg. On the idyllic towpath along the canal from the ironworks site to the still producing steelworks in Augustfehn II, you will learn astonishing facts about the most recent section of the local history. The approx. 2.5 hour tour can be done by bike or on foot (if necessary with bus transfer to the steelworks).

On this guided bike tour you will pass seven different bridges and get to know the waters and history of Apen. Since this route is designed as a circuit, the start and destination can be designed according to your wishes. On the 25 km long route you come through the districts of Apen, Augustfehn, Aperberg, Nordloh and Vreschen-Bokel and learn interesting facts from yesterday and today from our tour guides. Including a small picnic, you are on the road for around 3 hours and can stop at a restaurant if you wish at the end of the tour.
