On the last weekend in July the nationally known "Fest der 1000 Laternen" is celebrated in Augustfehn. Numerous houses are then adorned with colored lights and spread a special atmosphere of party mood and community, which can be experienced especially at the annual parade on Friday evening. A fair also rounds off the festival for visitors from outside.

On the last Sunday in September, Apen has been inviting people to eat and have fun at Oktoberfest for over 30 years. From 11:00 a.m., visitors can fortify themselves in the Rüschen festival hall with beer, Haxn, Leberkäs and other delicacies. There is also a lot of moody music to be heard.
