Geführte Wanderung durch Vreschen Bokel
Fresh air, sweeping views, and the unique landscape of the Vreschen-Bokel Nature Reserve await participants on a guided hike of about six kilometers. The tour offers fascinating insights into the region’s nature, history, and culture and is aimed at anyone who would like to experience the local landscape from a new perspective.
The hike begins at the Dörpshus in Vreschen-Bokel, a place of special significance as the center of village life and a hub of community. From there, the trail follows the historic Frisian Military Road for a stretch—a path once used by soldiers, merchants, and pilgrims that still bears witness to its historical significance today.
The route continues past the former border outpost and the old fortification, a historic defensive structure. A first highlight is the Holtgast viewing platform, where a striking steel heron greets visitors and draws attention to the unique features of the landscape.
Further along the route, participants encounter another work of art: the “Dancing Sheep,” known far beyond the region. They highlight the unique freshwater mudflats in the northwest as well as the area’s distinctive flora and fauna, which are characterized by its rare natural structure.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Vreschen-Bokel Chapel. The old Gothic brick chapel serves as a historic endpoint to the hike and brings the program to an impressive close. From there, the trail finally leads back to the Dörpshus, where the guided hike ends.
The guided tour combines nature experiences, regional history, and cultural highlights into a varied walking tour, allowing visitors to experience the uniqueness of the landscape around Vreschen-Bokel.
Duration of the tour: approx. 2.5 hours
